Celebrating the 815 is always a good time, especially along the Mile! We had 12 shops participate in Rockford Day, plus we ended the evening with our drive-in movie night showing a Rockford classic, “A League of Their Own”. This was a great way to enjoy an outdoor movie in a COVID-safe environment. About 100 families enjoyed a beautiful evening and many younger people saw this movie for the very first time. A highlight was a short video from Helen “Sis” Waddell Wyatt, an original Rockford Peach from 1950-51 seasons. She recalled a fun story of the first game she played and how she got to be a 2nd baseman. What an adventure that must have been to play and travel with the Rockford Peaches!
To celebrate Rockford Day, ten (10) locally-owned Miracle Mile business owners are sponsoring an outdoor movie night in the former Magna grocery store parking lot. These small businesses felt it was important to provide a family friendly, COVID-safe event for our community and to celebrate Rockford on August 15th.
We will be showing a Rockford classic: A League of Their Own. Attendees are encouraged to wear their Rockford apparel, Peaches shirts or their favorite baseball team jersey, but they must stay in their vehicles for the duration of the movie. The sound will be transmitted through an FM radio frequency.
Tickets are $10 per car and can only be purchased online at www.MiracleMileRockford.com/Events. Gate opens at 7pm, movie begins at dusk. Full details are provided on the Guidelines page included on the ticket site.
Thank you to the following businesses who have sponsored this event, as it would not be possible without their financial support:

a Huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to help us pick up trash along Keith Creek, East State Street, Dahlquist Park, and the tree line behind the old strip mall/Magna shopping center. We had 19 volunteers, who picked up about 30 bags of trash including a laundry basket, a couple small tables and a flower pot. It warms my heart that most of you stayed even though it rained off and on. The new breakfast cookie provided by Mary’s Market Cafe & Bakery was delicious and the fruit provided by Upper Cervical Care Center was a refreshing treat. Thanks Dr Schalow and your team for hosting us this year.
Photos (L-R) Karleene Hagerman, handling registration. Randy T and Dr D with their interesting finds, a happy volunteer, and Tom & Dawn Blomgren clearing the creek of trash. Wish I had gotten photos of all our volunteers, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Paula Olson, Executive Director MMR
We had 25 Miracle Mile area businesses participate by giving us either a video and/or photos of their store/business/salon and we featured them one-by-one (posting every 3 – 5 minutes) during our event, which was on Facebook May 15th. There were also fun Rfd Trivia questions for entertainment value.
Miracle Mile purchased gift certificates from each business and created 10 Miracle Mile Shopping Experience packages that attendees of the event could win by Liking, Commenting, and/or Sharing posts. Each package contained 11-12 gift certificates with a value between $175 – $200. Each store post gave shoppers instructions on how to place an order if they saw something they liked. Then Saturday, they could pick up their purchase, CurbSide! We invited a couple food trucks to park on Saturday.
There were over 100 people who were eligible for the prizes. Every person that won had a huge smile on their face and LOVED following along during the event. Each one said they learned about several shops and businesses they didn’t know about. Now those 10 people will tell all their friends! PLUS, they will be back to those 11-12 shops to spend their gift certificates!
